8 MM

You can't prepare for where the truth will take you
IMDB Link

8 MM is a movie about Tom Welles (Nicholas Cage), a private detective hired by the widow of a recently dead millionare to investigate the authenticity of a "snuff", found in the secret possesions of the dead millionare. In case you are looking for a psychological thriller like Silence of the Lambs, I think you will be disappointed. The movie however is very strong in portrayal of the underground pornographic industry . Sometimes it is so strong that it will make you sick and you will ask yourself why people do some of the things that are shown in the film. This is where I think the movie differentiates itself. It offers no deep psychological reasons for people being sick the way they are. The movie tries to convince you that some people are just insensitive enough to treat other people with disgrace for their amusement or money. It does not take a spoiled childhood or early abuse always to make a psycho.

There is a nice soundtrack which plays twice in the movie. Once during the middle part and once during the credits. I felt that nicholas cage was not natural with his acting a few places. However I am too kiddo to be making such statements I guess. All in all I would say that it is a good movie to watch if you are not looking for many answers from the movie but want to watch a powerful portrayal of the problem.

Another blog on movies

I am sure there will be a lot of people writing on movies and some of them quite well. I feel there are a couple of places like imdb which are really good at it and I trust them quite a lot when I am picking up movies to watch.

I am starting this blog because I really like blogging. Its a powerful medium of expression and I can write here my feelings/thoughts without worrying about who is gonna read it and what they are going to make out of it. However lot of times I feel like writing and there is nothing really to write about. There are some thoughts that are sort of in abstract shape and I am not able to pen(or click) them down. I do however watch a lot of movies at home; Its a habit since my IIT days. I like discussing movies too with friends and therefore I decided that this may be a perfect blog idea. Lets see how this experiment goes.

Happy Watching to all, including me ....
